Length-of-Stay Discounts
Longer stays mean fewer turnovers, lower cleaning costs, and more predictable revenue. Argonautas supports automatic discounts for guests who book above configurable night thresholds.
How LOS Discounts Work
Length-of-stay (LOS) discounts are configured per property season. When a guest books enough nights to qualify, the discount is applied automatically to the nightly rate for the entire stay.
Discounts are calculated on the effective nightly rate, which may include seasonal rates or overlay adjustments.
Configuring Discounts
- Navigate to Rates > Property Seasons.
- Open or create a property season record.
- Find the Discounts section.
- Set discount tiers:
| Field | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly Discount | Percentage off for stays of 7+ nights | 10% |
| Monthly Discount | Percentage off for stays of 28+ nights | 20% |
- Save the property season.
Discount Tiers
The system supports two standard tiers:
- Weekly (7+ nights): Typical range is 5--15% for vacation rentals.
- Monthly (28+ nights): Typical range is 15--30%.
Only the highest qualifying tier applies. A 30-night stay receives the monthly discount, not both weekly and monthly.
How Discounts Appear
On the Booking
When a guest qualifies for a discount, the booking detail shows:
- The original nightly rate (before discount).
- The discount percentage and label (e.g., "Weekly Discount: 10%").
- The discounted nightly rate.
- The total savings for the stay.
On Invoices
Invoices display the discount as a separate line item below the accommodation subtotal, showing the percentage and total amount deducted.
On OTA Channels
LOS discounts are synced to connected OTA channels where the channel supports them. Airbnb and Booking.com both display weekly and monthly discounts to guests during search.
Best Practices for Costa Rica Rentals
Luxury Villas ($500+/night)
- Weekly: 5--8%. Luxury guests expect value but steep discounts can diminish perceived quality.
- Monthly: 15--20%. Long stays are rare but highly profitable when they happen.
Mid-Range Properties ($200--$500/night)
- Weekly: 10--12%. The sweet spot for encouraging week-long family vacations.
- Monthly: 20--25%. Attract digital nomads and extended-stay travelers.
Budget-Friendly Rentals (under $200/night)
- Weekly: 10--15%. Compete aggressively for longer bookings.
- Monthly: 25--30%. Fill calendar gaps during green season.
Seasonal Adjustments
Consider different discount levels by season:
- Green Season: More aggressive discounts (15% weekly, 30% monthly) to drive occupancy during low demand.
- High Season: Reduce or remove discounts when demand is strong (5% weekly, skip monthly).
- Peak/Holiday: No discounts. Demand is high enough to fill at full rate.
Common Questions
Can I set a flat dollar discount instead of a percentage? Currently, LOS discounts are percentage-based only. For flat-rate adjustments, use rate overlays.
Do LOS discounts stack with rate overlays? Yes. The discount percentage is applied to the effective nightly rate, which may already include an overlay adjustment.
What if the guest shortens their stay below the threshold? If a modification reduces the stay below the qualifying threshold, the discount is automatically removed and the rate recalculated.
Can I set custom thresholds (e.g., 14-night discount)? The system uses the standard 7-night and 28-night thresholds. For custom thresholds, use rate overlays to target specific date ranges.
